E! news: The Star Wars Fans already know who you are. But for all the beginners out there, are you kind enough to introduce yourself? And tell me a little about what you are doing Obi-Wan Kenobi??
Doug Chiang: I am the Vice President and Executive Director of Lucasfilm, a production designer and co-producer. Obi-Wan Kenobi..upon Obi-Wan Kenobi, I was basically in charge of appearance, character, environment, all sets, planet design. It was actually a very nice effort. Obi-Wan Kenobi It bridges the first part and the original trilogy. It was a really great opportunity to actually blend Tatooine’s aesthetics from what we saw in the first part to what we saw in the original trilogy. Obviously there was a period of about 20 years. How do planets evolve and how do they distinguish them? Obi-Wan Kenobi??
E!: There is such a thing Star Wars A fan nerd moment on the trailer when the young Luke Skywalker looks a lot like Anakin.
DC: Of course, one of our biggest challenges was how to portray the young Luke Skywalker. What did the mansion look like with Aunt Bell and Uncle Owen? Tatooine hasn’t changed much, so it was really interesting. It’s a pretty timeless environment. Our challenge was to make it, with updates to bring something new, still very familiar to fans of the original trilogy. I think Luke is a very fun example. There, he tried to infuse much of that nostalgia into his character and the design of “what the young Luke is doing in the mansion.”
E!: When it turns out they are doing a standalone series Obi-Wan KenobiHow was your first reaction?
DC: I was really excited. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of my favorite characters and I can really learn more about his character and I’m always really interested in what happened between the first part and the original trilogy. It was what I was doing. Obi-Wan Kenobi is very affectionate because he is one of the last characters of George Lucas. We had great protection in trying to be very respectful of the character’s development. What is that? What about his evolution? What was his motive during this time?Obviously when we see him New hopeHe is a completely different person and we really want to learn “OK, what happened in those 20 years”.
